Naturopathy is a complementary medicine system based on the naturopathic principles:
1. First, do no harm
2. The healing power of nature
3. Identify and treat the cause, not the symptoms
4. Practitioner as teacher
5. Treat the whole person
6. Disease prevention
Using these principles and naturopathic treatments, a naturopath aims to support your body to find homeostasis – balance between all body systems to function correctly.
-
A naturopath uses a combination of herbal medicine, nutritional supplements, dietary recommendations, flower essences and lifestyle recommendations to provide the body with what it needs to reach a state of homeostasis and good health.
-
Naturopathic treatments are gentle and safe for all ages. Naturopathy can support you from birth through to palliative care.
-
Naturopathy combines traditional knowledge and hundreds of years of herbal medicine knowledge and use, with modern science, understanding of human physiology and biochemistry and high-quality evidence from scientific trials.

In Australia the highest qualification of a naturopath is a Bachelor of Health Science (Naturopathy) degree. This is a four-year degree that requires 460 hours of work-integrated learning. After qualification, registration with one of the governing bodies in Australia requires 20 hours of Continuing Professional Education each year to remain registered.

Yes! A naturopath is educated about prescription medications and their safety and interactions with naturopathic medicines. A naturopath should never tell you to stop taking your medication, we can offer safe treatments, dietary recommendations alongside your medication.

The number of appointments depends on the severity and duration of your current health condition. For some clients with short term health concerns then 2-4 may be all that is needed. For more chronic conditions, follow-up appointments over several months may be required. The aim is always to improve your health goals in the timeliest manner possible.
-
For most people, a short-term treatment with supplements and/or herbal medicines is used to provide the body with what it needs to recover and reach homeostasis. The aim is always to manage your long-term health with food as medicine and lifestyle medicine, not supplements.
If you have a chronic health condition, eat a restricted diet by choice or for medical reasons, or have a genetic predisposition to nutrient deficiency then longer-term supplements may be needed. The aim is always to do as much as possible with food as medicine and lifestyle medicine.
-
No problem! In an ideal world, no one would need to take supplements or medicines. We can work with dietary changes, food as medicine and lifestyle change only.
-
No, unfortunately not. Medicare is only for medical treatments with a Medicare item number. Private health insurance are not currently covering naturopathic treatments, though the naturopathic governing bodies in Australia are working to have naturopathy returned to private health insurance.

Yes! We have a beautiful family friendly space here at Indah Health Studio. I have some toys, books and colouring available in my office. We also have a lovely playground right next door if your children need a movement break before or after the appointment. And we have a cafe several doors down with lots of delicious options for all ages.
However, if you feel that bringing your kids is too stressful or distracting then we can always make your appointment a video call so you can relax in your own home.
